R&B : The One Where the R Stands for Research

Research: music video conventions and codes

I will be doing a R&B music video. In these videos, the audience usually hears the music while the video tells a story or shows the people rapping or singing.

In the videos I watched such as from “Ex for a reason”, the costumes vary but they were both wearing short shorts and have on bra-like tops. Her outfit changed a couple times but it always fit the vibe of the song and the music video all around. The costume always depends on the setting.
In the music videos I watched there really weren’t any props used because it was them rapping/singing the lyrics as the songs go along and showing them. They do use things like phones, hait products/makeup to match the "getting ready scene" but it's really focused on the story/interactions with each other.
The appearance in R&B music videos varies depending on the artist, but in the ones I watched they were all very fit with makeup on, they all looked glam because of the party like setting.
The score in this music video will be R&B based similar to the ones I watched.

Conventions and codes in the R&B music videos that I watched usually contained who helped produce the song, who the label is, and sometimes the song title. They music video also had a whole bunch of extra actors to really show of the fun/party vibe they were going for. All of this is usually to give credit to all the people that helped in the making of the video.
In the videos i watched they focused on the artist more then anything to show that they made the song and it also focused on maintaining the the vibe of the song so the music video and song don’t clash
The music videos showed features in the song by letting them have their part usually no more then 30 seconds and they also seemed to spend time in the music video like close friends to keep up with the song. Music videos I watched were fast paced and they seemed to be at a party but it matched with the lyrics.
