To Flim, or Not to Film?

September 29th was our official first film day! For most people, me not included. I didn't film on Thursday because I hadn't detailed my storyboard the way I needed to. My description and drawing didn't specify the exact locations or actions that I'd be taking. In my first storyboard my descriptions were vague . I  also didn't  mention the location everything would be taking place in. In this storyboard I was more descriptive and clear about my commercial filming details.I have since made my tweaks to my storyboard and I believe I will be ready to film on our next filming day. If everything is correct then I should be filming the next time I get the opportunity. Since I am doing this project independently, my friend will help me in the actual film process. Although I was disappointed to not be able to film on my first opportunity I think this was a good thing. Now that my storyboard has been adjusted it also made me think a little deeper. It made me focus on all the minor details and come up with a better plan for my film day. I'm excited to film, however I am also a bit nervous. This is my first filming so I have "first film jitters" among other concerns. I am hoping I can film everything in the time I'm provided, but I am nervous that I won't. I hope if anything doesn't go as planned, it will be a problem that is solvable through my editing process.Nevertheless I am pretty excited to really get this project  going.

Drawing Talent? Absent

First scene-

During this scene, we start off with me outside the media center doors showcasing my hands before doing anything else, and talking about school in a pandemic. Linking the importance of sanitizter to illness prevention.

Second scene-

The next frame in my storyboard is  me walking down the stairs, touching the rails and "collecting the germs".

Third scene-

Once I\"m at the bottom of the stairs I reach into my pocket for a pencil but pause and get my Purell hand sanitizer instead.

Fourth scene-

For the remainder of the commercial I stay at the bottom of the stairs. I use the hand sanitizer and pan into the rubbing of my hands.

Fifth scene-

In the last frame of the commercial, I showcase my now clean hands and take out my pencil, now ready to take on school.

Keeping Everything Pure-ll

 Planning blog

Props:

The props I will be using will mainly consist of the hand sanitizing bottle and many different surfaces and places to show how you interact with bacteria throughout the day

Costumes:

The costumes I will be using will be very basic and consist of day to day clothing. My actor(s) will be in jeans and a regular t-shirt and maybe another actor in scrubs. If I couldn’t obtain the scrubs For the other actor they would be in the same attire as the other actor(s).

Schedule:

On 09/23/21, I will research conventions and codes of hand sanitizing commercials.  I will also  establish props, costumes, schedule location, list, and back up plan.

On 09/29/21, I will create the storyboard for the 30 second Purell commercial.

On 10/1/21 and 10/5/21, I will film and record the necessary shots for the commercial

On 10/7/11 and 10/11/21, I will edit and add the final touches to the commercial

Location list:

The main location will be the hallway upstairs closest to the media center. I will film the actors walking and someone sneezing, to show the need of hand sanitizer in the world right now

Back up plan:

If it starts to rain or anything I will start to film the commercial inside the classroom. We would film the need of hand sanitizer in a classroom setting. If one of my people is missing I will then decide to switch my actors and cameraman/camerawoman around.

Sanitizing the 19' Away

I will be doing a Purell hand sanitizer commercial, the audience will usually see people using hand sanitizer frequently and showing how much it can help keep bacteria and diseases at bay.

  • There won’t really be any costumes that are apart of this commercial, people will mainly be showing their hands and/or be in a regular day to day clothing
  • Props will include multiple hand sanitizer bottles as well as
  • Their appearance will be a regular day to day clothes such as shorts, jeans, t-shirts, etc. Their hands will mainly be shown throughout the commercial
  • The score throughout the commercial will be very chill and calming and give you a sense of renewal to make the audience feel how important it is to use hand sanitizer

  1. Conventions and codes in Purell commercials include the symbolic looking hand sanitizers bottles as well as their slogan “Imagine a touchable world”. The slogan makes you wonder and want a touchable world without worrying about bacteria, viruses, etc.
  2. In the commercial the audience is always hooked in by the way they see bacteria and how many people touch things at once. Purell may not have a universal symbol but it is known by almost everyone in the world at this time and the commercials always show how useful the hand sanitizer can be.
  3. Most of the commercials show regular people living their life and using the hand sanitizers throughout the commercial to show how important it is.

Alone Again

For my commercial project I will be working alone. Generally, I love working in groups and find things easier to do when the work is equally divided with somebody/in a group. However, I don't actually know anybody in my class since I keep to myself in my little corner. Group work can also be a wild card when you're unsure of your member's work ethic/style. In a group, roles need to be decided/assigned, a member may not want to do their part, people may miss important days etc. There's just way too many factors that I can't really control.Since working with others can get a little  too complicated, especially with strangers, so I'm choosing to embark on this journey on my own.  Even though I usually prefer being in a group, I actually work pretty well independently and have faith in myself. The only worries I have about being alone are not completely understanding something and some parts of the commercial making process. Some parts being the storyboard and recording the footage while being in the footage. I am starting to think these issues through and know I'll find a way.Honestly, I don't think doing this project alone will be EXTREMELY difficult but it'll probably be hard for me to figure out all on my own since this is my very first project.  I know that if I need any clarification or anything I can always ask someone around me or my teacher.  I'm still not too sure on how I'd actually film the commercial on my own and be in it but if previous students were successful then I can be too. I plan on planning everything out to a T so I can fix whatever needs to be fixed in time. So far I have a lot of good ideas on what I want my product to be and have a good understanding of the process itself. I've been reviewing the expectations thoroughly so that I make sure I have everything I need.  I think if I just follow my guidelines for this project meticulously then I'll be able to do everything well and get a good grade.I just want to make my commercial creative, relevant to today and overall put together. I also want to make sure I have an amazing comprehension of the process so I'm basically a pro by the final task at the end of the year.

The Beginning of an Era

Welcome to my intro blog, where you get to learn all about me, Baneishah. Being raised around smartphones, social media and basically living at the movie theater gave me a natural interest in all things media. Growing up in an age of media with that interest I thought taking an AICE media studies class would be an interesting route. So far it's been pretty interesting learning about films/movies and how they're made. I'm excited to be able to experience the making of my own  piece of media firsthand. I naturally love to think about movies and how I would change them or how I'd make my own. Although  being creative doesn't always naturally flow to me I'm up for the challenge. I like being challenged in a creative sense, mainly because I love to see what new ideas I can come up with. I don't have much experience with the technicalities of making one but I'm eager to learn . Along with this excitement I am also a little nervous due to my lack of experience. I'm not entirely afraid of filming but I am anxious about story boarding, and editing. The storyboard process seems like it would be the most difficult for me. I'm not good at drawing and I feel like capturing six seconds onto a piece of paper would be hard. I just can't imagine how I would illustrate someone waving or showing a product at an angle on a piece of paper. Editing is also a tricky subject for me because I've only really edited pictures and that has only been on one or two occasions. Editing an entire video especially having to drop scenes and rearrange them seems like it'll definitely be a learning experience. Don't get me wrong I've had to do video projects for classes but they were never focused on the actual production of the video, more so focused on the product. When I envision something I want it to turn out exactly how it is in  my mind, however this is my first ever project like this.  I'm prepared to make a couple mistakes and learn from them with this project, I just hope I don't make too much of a mistake and everything turns out just right. I'm ready to get this project done and out of the way, make some mistakes, learn from them and end up doing an even better job on the next one. I'm ready to bring my creative side out and put out great ideas into my projects.

Title Website Research

For my title design research, I get to explore two really cool websites. The two websites are artofthetitle.com and watchthetitles.com.These...
